Idawire Foundation

When we started breeding GWPs, we knew that we wanted to have dogs that would be great in the field, as well as having good conformation for the show ring. We looked for bloodlines which combined these two important traits, as well as good health and temperaments. We couldn't have been luckier when we got Cruiser, and a little later, Zoie.

Both Cruiser and Zoie attained the ultimate title--Dual Champion (Show championship and field championship.) These two dogs also produced well, especially when we combine their bloodlines. These two dogs form the foundation of Idawire GWPs, and every dog we own goes back to either one or both of these dogs.

Cruiser was our first GWP, and we couldn't have started with a better dog! As newbies, we made many mistakes with Cruiser, and he still managed to be a great dog. Cruiser was the first Dual-Champion GWP to win an all-breed Best in Show, and we are very proud of that accomplishment. But, Cruiser proved that he wasn't just a pretty show dog that got lucky in the field and earned his field championship against mediocre competition. Cruiser was a top 5 puppy/derby dog, and when he started running in broke-dog stakes at field trials, he won all-age stakes and limited gun-dog stakes. And, when Tom ran him at Nationals, he placed in the National Amateur Field Championship 2 years in a row! Cruiser was always a tough competitor. We showed Cruiser in-between field trial weekend, and shortly after winning his field championship, he won his Best in Show. He was a multiple sporting group winner, including two group wins after he was retired, when he returned briefly to the show ring. Cruiser retired from the show ring and field trials by the time he was 4 years old, although he continued to hunt until the day before he died. Cruiser hunted all upland game, including pheasant, grouse, chukkar, quail, and huns. He also retrieved ducks, geese, and doves.

We met Zoie when she was 6 months old, and knew we had to have a dog just like her. We eventually convinced Aloysia Hard (Piemonte GWPs) to co-own Zoie with us, and she became our foundation bitch. She consistenly reproduced her stylish point and bird-finding abilities. She had a beautiful, wirey, solid-liver coat, and to this day we still love a nice solid-liver colored GWP. Zoie did not range as far as many field trial dogs, and it took her longer to earn her field championship. Although she consistently placed in field trials, there was usually a dog that would run bigger. Her range also shortened up as she found more birds, and because she had such a great sense of smell, she always had a lot of finds on a field-trial course. Luckily, there were judges who appreciated her nose and her style, and she eventually finished her field championship.Zoie finished her show championship quickly, winning two majors her first weekend out as a puppy. She is a very pretty dog, with an outstanding coat and sound structure. She has a good temperament, and loves the water.

Final Thoughts on Cruiser and Zoie

Although Cruiser and Zoie's titles are impressive, the fact that they were both outstanding hunting dogs and loved family members, means more than titles--the titles just prove that they consistently performed in competition. These two dogs also mean so much to us because they consistently passed their excellent qualities to their kids, and we are now seeing the same temperaments, field ability and conformation in their grandkids and great-grand-kids.

Other imortant dogs in our Breeding program

Ch Idawire American Pie

Apple was bred by us out of one of our best producing litters. She has beautiful conformation, a fabulous coat, and style and desire in the field. Best of all, she was a great producer who passed on her outstanding traits to her pups. She was rarely field trialed, but still placed in the GWPCA derby as a young dog. Apple also loves the water, and all of her pups have been great water dogs. One pup has excelled at Dock Dog competitions! Two of Apple's pups are now competing in field trials.

Ch Idawire Jazz Singer

Sire: Ch Cynister Believe it or Not

Jazz is a great little hunting dog with a lot of speed to cover ground and plenty of style on point. She is very independent in the field and a hard charger. She has a great coat and a sweet disposition. In the show ring, Jazz finished her championship with 4 majors!

Echo is the daughter of both of our foundation dogs--Cruiser and Zoie. She was co-owned and co-bred with the late Dr. Aloysia Hard, of Piemonte GWPs. We are very pleased with the puppies Echo produced--they have good conformation in the show ring, and more importantly, they have been great bird dogs, combining love of water, great bird finding, and stylish points. Three of Echo's pups have puppy/derby points in the field.

Ch Piemonte Idawire Quiet Riot

Sire: Ch Piemonte Oliver V Chisola

Dam: Ch Piemonte Idawire Anabel V Chisola

Riot was from one of Dr. Aloysia Hard's (Piemonte GWPs) litters, and she has been a wonderful producer. Riot was closely linebred on Zoie, and has a beautiful, stylish point in the field. She also handles great in the field, hunting at a nice range while keepng in touch with Tom. Riot also proved herself to be an outstanding producer, with a number of pups competing in both the field and the show ring.
